Alva's Medical College aims to produce compassionate doctors: Dr Mohan Alva

Moodbidri: The main objective of Alva’s Medical College is to produce doctors who have humanity, compassion and a spirit of service towards patients and society, rather than limiting medical education to technical knowledge, said Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr Dr. Mohan Alva.

Welcoming the guests at the inauguration of Alva’s Medical College at the Srimathi Sundari Anand Alva Vedike in Mijaruguttu on Monday, he said direct service experience in hospitals, community health centres and various specialised treatment departments would complement the students’ medical education.

MP Capt Brijesh Chouta said Dakshina Kannada should become a “healing capital” and that this tradition should be carried forward by Alva’s educational institutions. He also called upon everyone to join hands with the Prime Minister’s TB-free India campaign.

Dr M. Mohan Alva welcomed the gathering and presented the introductory remarks. Alva’s institution representatives Vinay and Vivek Alva and their spouses felicitated the guests. Lecturer Venugopal Shetty compered the programme.

Medical departments named after eminent doctors

Dr M. Mohan Alva said various treatment centres and departments of the college have been named after senior doctors and medical stalwarts who made significant contributions to the medical field, with the aim of honouring their memory.

The departments and centres have been named after T.M.A. Pai, Dr S. Kanth, Dr Shankar Nayak, Dr V.S. Acharya, Dr Shantaram Shetty, Vinay Hegde, Dr Chandrashekar Shetty, Dr Sudhakar Shetty, Dr V.S. Kamath, Dr Manorama, Dr Krishnamurthy and Dr Amarnath Hegde.
