According to police, seven to eight people arrived in a Toyota Innova and intercepted a CMS Logistics cash-loading van that was transporting money from HDFC Bank’s J P Nagar branch. Officials said the gang convincingly posed as I-T and RBI officers, claiming that the vehicle was carrying “huge cash without permission”.

A police officer said, “Posing as Income Tax and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials, the suspects said they needed to verify the documents for carrying such huge cash without permission.”

Driver Abandoned, Cash Transferred, Robbers Vanish

The suspects reportedly forced the staff out of the CMS van, entered the vehicle themselves, and instructed the driver to move towards a police station for “verification”. However, after reaching Dairy Circle, they abandoned the driver, transferred the cash bags into their Innova, and fled.

Another officer explained, “The accused asked the staff to come to the Siddapura police station. Later, they made the driver stop the vehicle on the Dairy Circle flyover in Suddaguntepalya police limits before escaping. We have been tracking the vehicle, and it has crossed a toll near Kolar.”

Fake ‘Govt of India’ Markings Raise Alarm

Early investigation revealed that the Innova carried a fake number plate, and the rear end displayed ‘Govt of India’ to make the impersonation look authentic. Police also suspect the involvement of another getaway car, a Maruti Zen, believed to be part of the escape plan.

Police Launch Hunt With Multiple Teams

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that special teams have been deployed across multiple regions to track the suspects and the stolen cash.

“According to the initial investigation, around Rs 7 crore has been robbed, and we are verifying it. The cash was transferred from the CMS van to another vehicle,” he said.

The case is currently under a full-scale investigation, with authorities scanning CCTV footage, toll booth entries, and vehicle entries near Kolar.
