With just two months into the year, 2026 has seen a staggering number of companies crash into administration, with some of them unfortunately leading to store closures. Claire's, Game, The Original Factory Shop and Quiz clothing are just a handful of retailers that have made administration announcements since January.

The number of administrations in January 2026 was 41% higher than in December 2025 and 14% higher than in January 2025, according to UK Government figures. The rise suggests that industries are facing increasing challenges, as soaring costs and weaker consumer spending have created a difficult market environment. This week, a major tool supplier, a metal company, a haulage company and a charity have collapsed into administration, according to The Gazette, the UK's official public record.
