Charas worth Rs10 cr seized, one held in Muzaffarpur
Patna: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Muzaffarpur regional unit, and Bihar Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested a suspected carrier and seized around 10kg of charas , estimated to be worth Rs10 crore, while busting an inter-state narcotics smuggling syndicate on Thursday night.
Police sources said the syndicate smuggled charas from Nepal into India and transported it to Patan in Gujarat via Basti in Uttar Pradesh. Action has been initiated against the arrested person under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, STF officials said on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence about the syndicate, a joint team of DRI Muzaffarpur and Bihar STF launched an operation along the India-Nepal border . The team kept surveillance in difficult-to-access areas to identify the syndicate’s key members, hideouts and modus operandi.
According to an STF statement, the syndicate had planned to transport the consignment through multiple trains and deliberately delay its movement to evade detection by law enforcement agencies. The consignment was scheduled to be transported further on Nov 5.
The joint team later received specific intelligence input about a suspected carrier travelling by bus. Acting on the information, the team intercepted the bus at Dumariaghat and arrested the suspected carrier.
“Efforts are being made to ascertain the wider network of the smuggling syndicate, identify other persons involved, trace the supply chain of the narcotic substance and uncover its intended distribution network,” the STF statement said.
