Class X girl found dead in Lucknow, one held
Patna: Police have arrested one of three men accused of allegedly kidnapping , raping and murdering a Class X student from Patna district , who was found critically injured near a railway station in Lucknow on Saturday. Two other accused are absconding, police said.
The 17-year-old student had gone missing from her village on Sept 18 after leaving home for school around noon. According to her family, she did not return and efforts to trace her proved unsuccessful. The next morning, the family was informed by the railway authorities that the girl had been found injured near the railway tracks near Lucknow. The family rushed to the spot but learnt that she had died during treatment.
The victim’s father alleged that Shankar Rai , Durga Rai and Laxman Kumar , all from the same village, had kidnapped his daughter and were responsible for her rape and murder . Laxman has been arrested, while police are searching for the other two.
Police also recovered a mobile phone from the spot. The victim’s father claimed that the phone belonged to one of the accused, but police were verifying its ownership and examining its possible connection with the incident.
The girl’s mother subsequently lodged a complaint against the three men, alleging kidnapping, rape and murder. The family also brought the body to the local police authorities and demanded the arrest of all the accused. The mother has demanded the death penalty for those responsible for the death.
Police officer Amit Kumar said the family informed police about the incident on Monday morning after the body was handed over to them, following postmortem in Lucknow. “Police were investigating the circumstances in which the student reached Lucknow and were also in contact with the Lucknow railway authorities,” he said.
The officer added: “The exact cause and circumstances of the student’s death, as well as the allegations made by the family, will be established through the postmortem and further investigation. According to information, the girl was in contact with two alleged accused Shankar and Durga.”
