Coimbatore property owner booked for causing Rs 7lakh loss to tenant
COIMBATORE: A dispute between a property owner and a tenant in GN Mills in the city has resulted in a police case involving property damage estimated at approximately Rs 7 lakh.
Police said V Manivel, 47, who owns Locktech Safe & Secure System Pvt Ltd, had been operating from a rented space owned by R Kulanthai Kumar at GN Mills since 2019. Manivel alleged that due to ongoing rental disputes, Kulanthaikumar frequently disconnected the electricity supply, causing a financial loss to the former.

On June 28, 2026, when Manivel returned to take the remaining items, he found that the lock had been broken and items worth Rs 7 lakh had been damaged.

Following a formal complaint, a CSR (community service register) number was issued on June 28 and an inquiry was conducted. The landlord failed to appear despite receiving a notice under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Following this, the Thudiyalur police registered a case under sections 331(3), 324(2), and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating.
