Cong trying to cast doubts on constitutional bodies: BJP's Trivedi

Bhubaneswar: Accusing Congress's Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly attempting to erode public trust in India's constitutional institutions, Rajya Sabha member and BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday said that the opposition party was misleading people on issues related to the electoral roll revision and Election Commission (EC).

Addressing a news conference here, Trivedi said India has emerged as the world's fastest-growing economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while making significant strides in poverty alleviation, infrastructure development and welfare measures across regions.

Trivedi alleged that Congress MP Rahul had been consistently questioning democratic institutions, including the Election Commission, judiciary and public sector financial institutions. “Instead of introspecting over repeated electoral setbacks, the Congress is trying to cast doubts on constitutional bodies," he said, terming the opposition's criticism of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as baseless and misleading. “Deletions from voter lists were carried out in accordance with established procedures and after due verification,” he said, also criticising BJD president Naveen Patnaik for questioning the SIR process.

Trivedi questioned the Congress over its objections to electoral roll revisions, saying political parties have their own booth-level agents involved in the verification process. "If there were objections, why were they not raised during the verification exercise," Trivedi asked.

The BJP spokesperson further accused the Congress of attempting to create confusion over the electoral processes while ignoring its own prolonged absence from power in several states, including Odisha .

Responding to the allegations, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das said that it is a fundamental right of every citizen of India to raise their voice on issues that challenge the very spirit of democracy. "We are firm in our demand. As Rahul Gandhi Ji rightly said, Gyanesh’s resignation is just the beginning," he said.

Trivedi further referred to the cultural heritage of Odisha, which was showcased on international forums.

Trivedi said the state received national and global recognition under the Modi govt, citing the showcasing of the Konark Temple motif on international platforms and Prime Minister's recent presentation of its replica to the German Chancellor.
