Davanagere: Farmers stopped by police from blocking highway over Bhadra water demand

Davanagere: Farmers seeking the release of water for crops in the Bhadra command area attempted to stage a highway blockade on Tuesday (September 15), but police prevented the protest from going ahead.

The protest was organised under the leadership of the Farmers' Federation to demand the release of water for crops in the Bhadra command area and to oppose the experimental release of three TMC of water into the Bhadra Upper Canal.

Police stopped farmers arriving in vehicles from different parts of the district and sent them back.

Unable to proceed with the highway blockade, the protesters engaged in a heated exchange with police personnel on the service road near Bada Cross.

The protesters demanded that the Deputy Commissioner visit the spot and listen to the farmers' grievances.

Former minister M.P. Renukacharya, former MLA Basavaraj Naik, Madal Mallikarjun and several other leaders participated in the protest.
