NEW DELHI: The iconic Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi will be 'dismantled' to create a comprehensive Sports City , featuring multi-discipline facilities and athlete accommodation , a sports ministry source told news agency PTI on Monday.

The project, currently in its proposal stage, will involve complete reconstruction of the stadium's 102-acre area. The ministry is studying sports cities in Qatar and Australia to finalize the project details, though no timeline has been established yet.

"The stadium will be dismantled. All offices inside the stadium, including National Anti Doping Agency and the National Dope Testing Laboratory will be relocated," the ministry source said to news agency PTI.

The planned Sports City will be a state-of-the-art multi-discipline facility equipped with world-class infrastructure for both training purposes and hosting major sporting events.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Complex in Ahmedabad serves as an example of such a facility, featuring various sporting amenities including cricket, aquatics, tennis, and athletics infrastructure.
