DMRC Proposes New Pink Line Extension Connecting North-East Delhi To Ghaziabad
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has put forward a proposal to introduce a new metro line, aiming to connect North-East Delhi with the Trans Hindon area of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. This extension, part of the Pink Line, is intended to enhance transit in highly populated regions.
The proposal has been submitted to the central government, along with the governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Should the project receive approval, the DMRC will proceed with a survey and complete other formalities required for the new metro route's construction.
The planned metro route is expected to span from Gokalpuri to Arthala, passing through DLF and the Dilshad Garden Extension-2. North-East Delhi, which has the region’s highest population density of 36,155 residents per square kilometre (as per the 2011 census), stands to benefit significantly from this development.
This new corridor will start at the existing Gokalpuri metro station on the Pink Line, extending the current route that links Shiv Vihar to Majlis Park. It will pass through important areas such as Dilshad Garden Extension-2, DLF, Hindon Airport, and Wazirabad Road, lying along the Delhi-UP border.
Once approved, the new line will connect the existing Red Line with the under-construction Pink Line. According to the DMRC's submission, the Pink Line will extend from the Gokalpuri Metro Station in Delhi to Arthala in Uttar Pradesh.
In Ghaziabad, the route will cover key areas, including Loni Gol Chakkar , DLF, Shalimar Garden , Hindon Airport, Bhopura, Tulsi Niketan, Rajendra Nagar , Hindon Air Force Station, New Karhaira Colony , Karhaira, and the Loni Road Industrial Area.
There is also a possibility of connecting the Red Line Metro to Arthala. The new Pink Metro Corridor will be longer than the Blue and Red Lines. Currently, Ghaziabad benefits from two metro routes: the Blue Line, which runs for about 2 km between Anand Vihar and Vaishali, and the Red Line, which spans roughly 9.5 km from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda.
The proposed Pink Line Metro Corridor is projected to cover around 13 km and feature more than 10 stations. Its completion will greatly improve connectivity between Ghaziabad and the eastern, southern, and western parts of Delhi.
With this new extension, residents of Ghaziabad will enjoy direct metro links to South Delhi, easing travel to several important locations, including North-East Delhi, Mayur Vihar , Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, and Rajouri Garden , among others.
