JHAJJAR: A dispute over the cleaning of a drain escalated into a violent clash in Kilrodh village of Jhajjar district on Saturday morning, with the parents of an Air Force personnel allegedly being assaulted with sticks, rods and bricks.

The incident was also captured on CCTV footage, which is now part of the police investigation.

According to the family, the incident occurred when Veer Singh, father of Air Force personnel Neetu Chauhan, was cleaning the drain outside his house. Some neighbours allegedly made remarks over the cleaning, following which an argument broke out.

Neetu Chauhan alleged that the situation soon turned violent when youths and women from the neighbouring side allegedly attacked her father.

According to the family, Shashi Devi, Veer Singh’s wife, rushed to intervene and protect her husband but was allegedly assaulted as well. The family alleged that a brick was hurled at her head during the attack, leaving her seriously injured.

Shashi Devi was initially taken to a civil hospital for treatment. Given the severity of her injuries, doctors subsequently referred her to PGI Rohtak.

The family alleged that Shashi Devi suffered serious injuries to one of her eyes. Neetu Chauhan also claimed that her mother’s tooth was broken and that her eye sustained severe damage in the assault.

Veer Singh and his daughter also reportedly sustained injuries in the incident. The family has claimed that around 10 people were involved in the attack.

Several CCTV clips purportedly linked to the incident have surfaced. In one clip, a group of youths can allegedly be seen assaulting Veer Singh with sticks, while his wife appears to be attempting to protect him. His younger daughter can also be seen standing nearby.

Another CCTV clip purportedly shows Veer Singh taking a stick from a youth. Shortly afterwards, another youth appears to run towards Veer Singh carrying a brick. Shashi Devi is also seen falling during the altercation.

The family further alleged that, during the assault, a youth pushed Veer Singh’s wife and daughter into the drain. In the footage, his daughter can be seen apparently attempting to snatch the stick from the youth.

The CCTV footage has not been independently verified, and the identities of all the individuals visible in the clips have not been independently established.

Jhajjar Sadar police station SHO Dharmender said police had received information about the altercation and registered a case against several people in connection with the incident.

He said no arrests have been made so far and the investigation is underway.

According to SHO Dharmender, the injured persons are undergoing treatment and police will take further action after considering the doctors’ advice and medical reports. Those found guilty during the investigation will be arrested, he said.

Police are examining the CCTV footage and recording statements from both sides to establish the sequence of events and determine the exact role of each person allegedly involved in the assault.
