Dubare elephant camp reopens to tourists after prolonged closure

Kushalnagar: The Dubare Elephant Camp, which had remained closed for a long time following the tragic death of a woman tourist from Tamil Nadu, has reopened to tourists from Sunday.

The camp has been reopened after implementing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) formulated by the Karnataka government for elephant camps. Under the new SOP, no form of direct contact between the public and elephants will be permitted.

Tourists will not be allowed to bathe the elephants or feed them.

Tourist entry will be organised in batches with a limited number of visitors during designated time slots. Each batch will be allowed approximately 45 minutes, with a maximum of 150 visitors permitted in each batch.

The Forest Department has sought public cooperation for the welfare of elephants, the safety of tourists and the conservation of the camp’s environment, according to a department statement.
