No More FASTag Sticker Changes When Switching Banks, Government Introduces OneTag
Changing the bank linked to a FASTag could soon become much easier. Currently, vehicle owners need to close their existing FASTag and get a new one if they want to switch to another issuing bank. This also means replacing the sticker fixed to the vehicle.
The government has now introduced OneTag, a new facility designed to make FASTag portability simpler. With this feature, users can move their existing FASTag from one bank to another without changing the physical sticker.
Under the new system, the existing FASTag can be transferred to another issuing bank while retaining the same physical tag. The Tag ID and vehicle registration number will remain unchanged, so users will not need to buy or attach a fresh FASTag sticker.
This could make the bank-switching process more convenient for vehicle owners.
Users will first have to complete the required verification and checks. After giving their consent, they can select the FASTag issuing bank they want to switch to. Once the onboarding process with the new bank is completed, the FASTag services will be transferred.
The existing FASTag-issuing bank will continue to deal with matters linked to the old account, including refunds and pending transactions. Once the portability process is completed, the new bank will take responsibility for future FASTag-related services.
NPCI will provide the technical support required for the OneTag system. It will help facilitate the portability process and update the issuing bank details on the NETC network.
For vehicle owners, this means less paperwork and no need to replace the sticker. For the system, fewer new tags could mean lower requirements for manufacturing, shipping, issuing and deactivating FASTags.

The FASTag portability facility will be available through theRajmargyatra app developed by NHAI.Users will first have to complete the required verification and checks.
