Father accused of killing son over 10-acre land dispute
Hisar: A 32-year-old man was allegedly shot dead inside his house in Sirsa early Tuesday morning, with his wife accusing his father and brother-in-law of being behind the killing. The murder is suspected to be linked to a dispute over the sale of family land, the police said. The deceased, Jaswant Singh , was allegedly shot six times in the head, chest and abdomen. His wife, Jaspreet Kaur , who is eight months pregnant, has refused to take his body from the civil hospital until the accused are arrested.
According to Jaspreet, Jaswant was sleeping in the courtyard around 3am before moving inside the room. Around 4am, her brother-in-law Gurjant Singh allegedly arrived with five or six others, all carrying swords and other weapons and with their faces covered. Jaspreet alleged that the assailants held a sword to her neck and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. Gurjant and his accomplices then allegedly entered the room and opened fire on Jaswant before fleeing. Police from Kalanwali reached the spot after being informed, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
SI Sukhchain Singh, acting in-charge of Kalanwali police station, said a murder case had been registered against the deceased’s father, brother-in-law and others. The body will undergo postmortem examination on Wednesday, while police teams are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
According to the family, Jaswant’s father, Jalwinder Singh , owns 10 acres of land and wanted to sell three acres, a move opposed by Jaswant. The dispute had reportedly led to frequent arguments between the father and son. Jalwinder had been staying at the house of his daughter Gurjinder Kaur in Kamalo village of Punjab’s Muktsar district following the disputes. Jaswant had been married to Jaspreet for six years, and they have a five-year-old son.
