File report on unregulated sale of MTP kits, Telangana HC directs health & medical dept

HYDERABAD: Telangana high court on Tuesday directed the health and medical department to file a detailed affidavit on the action taken against the alleged indiscriminate sale of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits without prescriptions or the supervision of registered medical practitioners.

The division bench passed the direction while hearing a PIL filed by a registered medical practitioner, Prabhu Kumar.He urged the court to direct strict compliance with the provisions in view of rampant over-the-counter sale of medical abortion pills and MTP kits in violation of statutory safeguards.
