Flights From Delhi to Leh Are Now Cheaper Than City Cab Rides? Viral Post Sparks Buzz
A Delhi man has stirred up quite a buzz on X after pointing out something almost unbelievable, flying from Delhi to Leh can cost less than taking a cab across NCR. Delhi-based writer Aaraynsh shared a screenshot showing a SpiceJet ticket priced at just Rs 1,540, while an app-based cab from Gurugram to Greater Noida came to Rs 1,952.61.
The comparison only got sharper when you consider distance and time. The 5:55 AM flight covers nearly 620 km in around 90 minutes, while the cab ride, just 70 km, takes over three hours and still costs more. “Delhi to Leh ₹1540 Gurugram to Greater Noida ₹1952. Today, flying from Delhi to Ladakh is cheaper than taking a cab from Gurgaon to Greater Noida,” Aaraynsh posted.
The post instantly caught attention, with reactions pouring in. But not everyone was amused. Many users argued that this wasn’t a quirky travel hack but simply an off-season anomaly. One user noted, "Sometime Delhi to Leh is Rs 15,000 ticket. Abhi may be less as Leh has sub zero temperatures in winter and no water. So no one goes there in winter." Another pointed out, "These are off-season prices. Look at the prices of the tourist season. Please post again in February and March. Do taxis have off-season prices?"
Screenshots shared by others showed fares rising to Rs 2,399 by late February, still low, but higher than the viral rate.
Travel data backs this up. According to Google Flights, off-season round-trip fares to Leh from major Indian cities usually fall between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000. During winter, January to March and November to December, one-way tickets from Delhi or Srinagar can dip to Rs 3,000-Rs 6,000.
But the story changes fast in peak season. From June to September, prices climb sharply. The costliest stretch, May through August, typically sees round-trip fares ranging from Rs 25,000 to over Rs 50,000, depending on the departure city and booking window.
So while the viral post sparked laughs and disbelief, it also highlighted a simple truth, timing is everything. In the off-season, the skies to Ladakh may be cheaper, but come summer, even crossing NCR might feel like the more affordable journey.
