Gujarat man kills lover's husband, chops body and dumps it near village lake
RAJKOT: A man is arrested on Monday for killing the husband of his lover in a village of Anjar town of Kutch district , chopped his dead body and disposed it by stuffing in to separate gunny bags, Kutch police informed.
The murder case came to light in Varsamedi village after the dismembered body of a 43-year-old missing man was recovered from gunny bags near the local village lake, leading to the swift arrest of his neighbor.
The victim, identified as Lakhu Humbal , a resident of Varsamedi, had been reported missing on September 1, 2026.
According to the complaint filed by his brother, Devji Humbal, Lakhu had left his house on the night of August 31 to watch over a farm.
Lakhu did not return, prompting the police to register a missing person entry and launch technical investigations and witness questioning.
The case took a grim turn on the afternoon of September 5 when police were alerted to two suspicious gunny bags abandoned near the bank of the Varsamedi village lake.
Upon opening the sacks, officials discovered the dismembered body parts of a male victim, which were subsequently identified as Lakhu.
The body was sent to the Anjar civil hospital, and forensic examinations indicated that the victim had sustained fatal blows to the head. An offence was formally registered under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the BNS.
Acting on human intelligence regarding an alleged illicit affair , the police zeroed in on Dinesh Thakor, 35, a neighbor residing near the Varsamedi bus station.
“During interrogation, Thakor confessed to the crime. Thakor told investigators that he had been in a relationship with victim’s wife for about a year and a half. Fearing that Lakhu had grown suspicious and might attack him, Thakor hatched a plan to kill him.” said Sagar Bagmar, superintendent of police, Kutch (east).
According to the police, on the late night of August 31, around 11.00pm, Thakor lured Lakhu to his residence under the pretext of some work.
While conversing, Thakor struck him on the back of the head two to three times with an iron rod, killing him on the spot.
To mislead investigators, Thakor took the victim’s mobile phone and discarded it along an unpaved road across from the Varsamedi highway.
Unable to carry the entire body alone, he panickingly used hacksaw blade fragments and blades found in his house to cut the body into two parts, packed them into plastic sacks, and dumped them one by one into the nearby village lake.
Police have arrested Thakor and recovered key evidence, while further legal proceedings are currently underway.
