House surgeons at Palakkad Medical College extend indefinite strike
Palakkad : House surgeons at Govt Medical College, Palakkad, have extended their protest indefinitely, citing a lack of facilities and medicines in the emergency department . The doctors continued their duty boycott on Wednesday, raising concerns over the hospital’s ability to provide emergency care.
The house surgeons said the strike, which began as a token protest on Tuesday, would continue until facilities, including X-ray and scanning services in the casualty, are provided. They alleged that the hospital lacks diagnostic facilities needed to treat accident victims .
The protest intensified after two house surgeons were injured in an accident outside the casualty department on Monday and could not receive emergency treatment at the medical college. They were later shifted to Palakkad district hospital.
Following the boycott, the principal has directed postgraduate doctors to provide services, including in the emergency department. However, the protesters said they would continue their strike until demands are addressed.
