Iconic UK SUV makes dramatic comeback with new design
One of the UK's most iconic SUV models has made a dramatic comeback, with the vehicle completely reimagined. The Land Rover Defender is one of the most recognisable 4X4 machines, with the manufacturer pulling production of all brand new models back in 2016.
The Land Rover Series IIA was one of the Defender's direct ancestors, rolling off the Solihull production lines between 1961 and 1971. The Series IIA was hugely popular, with as many as 60,000 examples in a single year.
However, the classic model is set for a dramatic comeback after vehicle specialists Everrati revealed its updated Series IIA electric car conversion. Everrati explained that the car is a bespoke electric conversion, merging the classic heritage of the Series IIA with modernity.
Everrati specialises in reengineering classic cars and has previously worked on popular models such as classic Porsche 911's, Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda and even Ford GT40s. The new car has been restored to the highest level by Land Rover specialists to celebrate its past, while the car has also been brought up to the 21st century under the bonnet.
Everrati has fitted the model with a 55kWh battery, capable of delivering 215 bhp and hitting 0-60mph in under 15 seconds. Oxfordshire-based Everrati's new model also features regenerative braking, as well as a range of extras such as adjustable steering assist and disc brakes.
Everrati said: "Our meticulously engineered 215bhp electric system delivers instant torque and seamless power delivery, maintaining the vehicle's go-anywhere spirit while offering a whisper-quiet, refined performance."
Range isn't an issue for those desperate to take the model on the adventure of a lifetime, with Everrati promising up to 150 miles on a single charge. Inside, the model is equipped with leather front seats and rear bench seats, while buyers can also fit the optional Safari hard top.
Justin Lunny, co-founder and CEO of Everrati said: "Everrati's OEM-grade engineering, design, and quality processes continue to raise the bar in the electrified classic sector. The Land Rover Series, like all our models, represents the pinnacle of zero-emission icons...
"Our redefined Land Rover Series IIA combines a complete restoration with the integration of our proprietary OEM-level electric powertrain, preserving the vehicle's legacy and enabling it to be enjoyed by generations to come."
