Jhota justice panel to protest outside CM's Sangrur home on Nov 5
Mansa: The Parvinder Singh Jhota Insaf Committee on Friday decided to stage a protest outside chief minister Bhagwant Mann ’s Sangrur residence on Nov 5, demanding action against the drug menace and the release of arrested activists.
The decision was taken following a four-hour meeting with representatives of dozens of organisations. The committee said protests will continue until sincere efforts are made to curb drug trafficking, detained persons are freed and its key demands are met.

The Nov 5 protest comes a day after former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled rally in Sangrur. The committee postponed its earlier call to protest outside the residences of MLAs and ministers on Friday.
Participating organisations condemned the police for forcibly taking custody of Daljit Singh ’s body and registering cases under serious charges, including attempt to murder, against 40 people. They also opposed the naming of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) functionary Lakha Sidhana and activist Mohanjit Singh Sheron in the case, demanding the immediate release of all detainees.
Central security cover for Jhota, Gulzar kin
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel arrived in Mansa town and Toor Banzara village in Sangrur district on Friday to provide X-category security cover to the families of deceased anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota and Dalit labourer Gulzar Singh, who died by suicide in Sept. The security deployment follows Union home minister Amit Shah ’s Oct 19 visit to the bereaved families, during which he had assured them of central protection.
Daljit’s father seeks son’s cremation
The father of Daljit Singh, who allegedly died of a suspected drug overdose in a Mansa village recently, appealed to his family to proceed with the final rites. “I want to perform the last rites for my son and have contacted my daughter and daughter-in-law, who insist on continuing the protest,” he said, adding that the village panchayat also favours an immediate cremation.
