Lalu gets bail in poll code violation case
Patna : RJD president and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad was granted bail by a Siwan court on Friday in a Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation case linked to the byelection for Daraunda assembly constituency in 2011. He appeared before the ACJM-1 (MP-MLA) court and secured bail after his counsel cited his health condition.
The case dates back to Oct 8, 2011, when Lalu, then railway minister, allegedly addressed a Daraunda election meeting after campaigning hours. Circle officer Shankar Mahto lodged a case against him and RJD candidate Parameshwar Singh . Warrants were issued in 2015 and 2019. Parameshwar died in May 2022, leaving Lalu the sole accused.

Advocate Kameshwar Tiwari said medical records, including kidney transplant documents, had been submitted.
“The former candidate and the first accused, Parameshwar Singh, has passed away. Lalu is the second accused. We informed the court that he was unable to appear because of his illness. We also submitted that he had served as railway minister and CM of Bihar and had no deliberate intention to violate the rules. The court accepted our application and granted him bail,” Tiwari said.
