LU students burn effigies over hostel allotment, food and water issues
Lucknow: Lucknow University students on Dussehra burnt effigies of vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini , dean students’ welfare Prof Amita Kanaujia and chief provost Prof Aashees Awasthi , alleging irregularities in hostel allotment and poor quality of food and drinking water.
The protest followed a month of complaints from hostel residents. Students have held a continuous sit-in for seven days, demanding transparent allotment and action from the administration. University officials said the vice-chancellor inspected hostels on both campuses and formed a 10-member committee to monitor food quality . They added the water issue stems from boring-system problems and repairs are underway.
