Major Alert in Uttarakhand’s Almora : 161 Gelatin Sticks and Over 20 kg of Explosive Material Recovered
In a worrying development following the recent Delhi Red Fort blast , Uttarakhand police have seized a large quantity of explosive gelatin sticks near a government school in Almora. The discovery has triggered a multi-agency investigation and heightened security across the region.
A Shocking Find Near a School
Over 161 gelatin sticks weighing more than 20 kg were recovered from bushes near the Government Higher Secondary School in Dabara village, Sult area. The find comes just days after nearly 3,000 kg of explosives were confiscated in Haryana as part of the probe into the Delhi blast, raising serious national security concerns.
The incident came to light when the school principal, Subhash Singh, noticed suspicious packets in the undergrowth and quickly informed authorities. Police teams reached the spot immediately, sealed the area and called in bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units from Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar.
Search teams conducted extensive sweeps of the school and nearby agricultural fields, locating several packets of explosive sticks some hidden nearly 20 feet away from the main discovery point.

Investigation in Full Swing
Almora SSP Devendra Pincha confirmed the recovery and said strong action had already begun.
“Around 161 gelatin sticks were found near the school. The BDS team conducted an inquiry and searched the entire area. An FIR has been registered under appropriate sections, and further action is ongoing," SSP Pincha said.
He also explained that while gelatin sticks are commonly used for road construction and rock cutting, the scale and location of the stash have raised serious questions about their intended purpose.
A case has been registered under Section 4(a) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The seized materials have been secured, and four specialised police teams are now investigating the supply route, origin, and possible end users.
Nationwide Concerns Mount
The recovery has intensified fears of a broader terror plot, especially after recent large-scale seizures of explosives in different states. Security agencies believe terror networks may have been planning coordinated blasts in major cities, prompting heightened vigilance in several regions.
With the country already tense after the Delhi Red Fort blast, the Almora discovery is being considered a major breakthrough that could help expose a wider illegal explosives network.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are maintaining strict surveillance as more details emerge.
