Man lynched, bro-in-law escapes injured after dispute with chicken shop owner
Jabalpur /Bhopal: In a disturbing incident, a 30-year-old man was lynched and his body dumped in a drain during a dispute over buying chicken at a meat shop in Jabalpur. The incident was reported in the Gaur police station area on Saturday night when he was at a meat shop to buy chicken along with his brother-in-law, an army personnel.
Five of the accused, including the chicken shop owner, were arrested while another two were absconding, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Arjun Singh , a resident of Pink City who was preparing for competitive examinations. His brother-in-law, 35-year-old Rupendra Singh , is posted with the 33 Armoured Corps . On leave from duty, Rupendra was visiting his in-laws and had decided to accompany Arjun to the chicken shop near Khandari Nala bridge .
While Arjun stepped inside the shop to buy chicken, his brother in law waited outside, the police said. A dispute broke out shortly after during which the shop owner, Sikander , allegedly attacked Arjun along with his son, Imran , associate Harsh and two others, whom the police identified as Sonu and Manish.
Hearing the commotion, Rupendra rushed in but he, too, was attacked with sticks. However, he managed to escape and inform his in-laws, the police said.
According to the sleuths, Arjun was beaten unconscious and dumped into a nullah while his brother-in-law ran to inform the family. A police team launched a search after the incident was reported. However, by the time they pulled out Arjun from the drain, he was dead.
The body was sent for post-mortem, which, the police said, determined that Arjun died from injuries he sustained during the assault.
Rupendra was admitted to the local military hospital with injuries, while his family reported the assault to the police.
Police booked the arrested shop owner, his son and associate for murder. They were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them to police custody for questioning.
The remaining suspects, Harsh and Sonu, were on the run, the police said, adding that searches were underway to nab them.
