Man Rapes 60-Year-Old Mother, Demands She Live as His Wife; Sentenced to Life in Prison
In a deeply disturbing case from Bulandshahr , Uttar Pradesh , a 36-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping his own widowed mother. The fast-track court 's decision to hand down such a severe sentence underscores the gravity of the crime, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
On Monday, Additional District Judge Varun Mohit Nigam delivered the verdict after a thorough investigation. Aabid , the accused, was found guilty of the heinous crime and was sentenced to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 51,000.
Government counsel Vijay Sharma described the case as unprecedented, stating, “Today, the honorable court has delivered a historic verdict. In my years of practice, I have never seen or heard of a mother, in a serious crime like Section 376 , weeping and repeating that her son is a monster who raped her. The court has disposed of the case in a record 20 months.”
The crime took place on January 16, 2023, when Aabid and his mother visited an agricultural farm to collect fodder for their cattle. It was there that Aabid assaulted her. According to reports, after the death of his father, Aabid harbored disturbing intentions toward his mother, wanting her to live with him as his wife. “After the death of my husband, my son wanted me to live like his wife,” the victim stated, revealing the depth of the trauma she endured.
After learning about the assault, Aabid’s younger brothers, Yusuf and Javed, filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police. “The mother told us about the incident when she returned. We tried to sort out the issue within the family but Aabid kept threatening our mother to live with him as his wife following which we lodged the FIR,” said one of the brothers, as reported by the Indian Express.
Following the filing of the FIR, a case was registered on January 21, 2023, under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code . Aabid was subsequently arrested the following day.
