Mangaluru: Police bust illegal cattle transport network, rescue 17 cattle

Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police seized a lorry allegedly being used to transport cattle illegally and in a cruel manner and rescued 17 cattle.

Police received information about the illegal transportation of cattle while they were on a morning round on September 22. At around 6.30 am, they chased and stopped the lorry, which was travelling from the Adyar side towards Mangaluru, in front of the Toyota showroom at Padil and conducted a search.

The police found that the cattle had been tightly tied inside the lorry without any safety measures and were being transported one over another in a cruel manner.

In connection with the case, police arrested 23-year-old Sadik G from Hassan district, who was driving the lorry.

Police seized the 17 cattle, the lorry and the accused's mobile phone, along with other related property.

A search is on for Subhan and Rehman, who are absconding. Further investigation into the case is under way.
