Massive Traffic Challan Campaign in Delhi: Over 2.6 Lakh Fined in 50 Days

In just 50 days, Delhi Traffic Police issued over 2.6 lakh challans for vehicles lacking Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUC). These fines, amounting to a staggering ₹260 crore, were part of the city's aggressive measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
Breaking Down the GRAP Action
GRAP, implemented in phases, guided the enforcement of pollution control measures:
Phase 1 (October 16-22): 12,756 challans issued
Phase 2 (October 22 - November 14): 1,11,235 challans
Phase 3 (November 15-17): 13,938 challans
Phase 4 (November 18 - December 5): 1,14,089 challans
Vehicles without valid PUC faced a hefty ₹10,000 fine each. Moreover, over 11,400 vehicles exceeding the age limit were seized during this period.
Cracking Down on Construction Violations
Pollution from construction and demolition was also in focus. Police fined 730 vehicles transporting waste illegally. These penalties were distributed across all GRAP phases to curb environmental damage.
Gurugram Targets Diesel Autos
Neighboring Gurugram has launched its mission to eliminate diesel autos by December 31.
Options for Owners:
1. Sell their diesel vehicles outside NCR with a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Scrap their vehicles.
2. Authorities are conducting an intensified campaign to enforce this ban, ensuring the removal of all diesel autos from Gurugram’s roads.
