Yadgir: Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil said the increase in milk prices was aimed at supporting dairy farmers who are facing difficulties due to drought conditions and rising cattle feed costs.

Speaking to the media in Yadgir, the minister said dairy farmers had been demanding a price revision for a long time. Considering their difficulties, the government had decided to increase the milk price.

He confirmed that the milk price had been increased by Rs 8 per litre, of which Rs 7 would go directly to farmers. He clarified that the government would not receive any financial benefit from the increase.

"The decision was taken to ensure that farmers continue milk production and to protect cattle," he said.

Patil further stated that a decline in milk production could worsen the situation for both farmers and livestock. He stressed the need to support dairy farmers who are struggling to maintain cattle amid drought conditions.

Responding to a question about a possible increase in bus fares, the minister said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had indicated that the ministers concerned would take a decision on the matter.

He added that factors such as rising diesel costs and challenges faced by the Transport Department would be examined before arriving at a decision.

The minister said the concerned department would assess the advantages and disadvantages of a bus fare hike, adding that the government would consider its possible impact before taking a final decision.
