MoU inked for advanced prosthetics

Lucknow: 3D-prosthetic limbs being developed by Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) will now be technologically more advanced.

InstaLimb, a Japan-based company (with major operations in India), which is connected to the UN through a strategic partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), will install state-of-the-art machinery and technology worth Rs 1.68 crore in the university.

The company is known for providing affordable and high-quality 3D-printed prosthetic limbs with customised sockets for enhanced comfort. Vice President of InstaLimb Takayuki Tanaka, arrived from Japan and met with DSMNRU vice-chancellor Sanjay Singh on Saturday.

The university is making 3D-print prosthetic limbs, but the ones made through new technology will be more comfortable. "It is a moment of pride for our university that an international organisation like UNIDO is collaborating with us for the endeavor.

Through 3D printing technology , we will be able to provide higher-quality artificial limbs, thereby benefiting a wider section of society, " said Singh.

A modern 3D printing lab will be established in the university's Artificial Limbs and Rehabilitation Centre.
