NEW DELHI: Patna high court on Wednesday directed the Congress to take down an AI-generated video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Heeraben Modi from all social media platforms.

The controversy erupted after Bihar Congress shared the clip on X, with the caption: “Sahab ke sapno mein aayi maa. Dekhiye rochak samvaad (Mother came in the sahab's dream. Watch an interesting interaction between them).” The video portrayed Modi’s mother criticising him for his politics.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Is this the level Congress has stooped to? Making memes of our PM's late mother, that too of such a cheap standard. How low will Congress fall? It’s shameful. We will make it a very big issue across the country.”

Congress defended the post, saying no disrespect was intended. “What is their objection? Just because a mother is trying to educate her son to do something right, where is it disrespectful — neither to the mother, whom we respect dearly, nor to the son,” Congress media head Pawan Khera said.

JDU working president Sanjay Kumar Jha called the video an “extremely vile act”. He added: “This is an insult not only to one mother but also to every mother and woman.”

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the post “reprehensible”, while Union minister Kiren Rijiju said: “There is a limit to falling into inhumanity.”

Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan said: “There should be differences in politics, but insulting a mother is absolutely intolerable. The people of Bihar are wise; when the time comes, an appropriate response will also be given.”

BJP’s Anurag Thakur described the video as “disgusting and shameful”, predicting a “humiliating defeat” for Congress and its allies in the upcoming polls.
