The meeting also explored ways to reduce dependence on traditional crop patterns and encourage diversification in agriculture. Both sides discussed the need to promote alternative crops and improve farm profitability through changes in cultivation practices and better planning.

Punjab has repeatedly raised concerns over the economic challenges faced by farmers, including rising input costs, fluctuating market prices and pressure on water resources due to conventional cropping patterns. Agricultural diversification has been a long-standing policy discussion in the state, particularly in the context of paddy and wheat cultivation.

During the interaction, the Centre assured cooperation and support for Punjab’s agriculture sector. The state government stated that it would continue to pursue measures aimed at protecting farmers’ interests and addressing sector-specific concerns through dialogue with the Union government.
