Raipur saints, Hindu groups object to altered Ganesh idol designs, seek action

Raipur: Members of the sant community and Hindu organisations in Raipur have raised objections to what they describe as changes to the traditional form of Lord Ganesh idols being made ahead of the festive season.

Religious group representatives have been visiting idol-making sites and pandals in the city to inspect the designs and have urged the state govt and district administration to ensure compliance with previously issued directions.

They expressed concern over alleged modifications in the appearance of Ganesh idols and demanded immediate action against those violating the prescribed norms. The groups alleged that although the district administration had issued directions in the past against altering the traditional form of Ganesh idols, there was inadequate monitoring at idol-making sites.

The sant community has warned that it may launch a street protest if the administration fails to take action in time.

The groups said the issue concerns religious sentiments and called on authorities to treat it seriously while enforcing existing rules in accordance with law and there shouldn't be any obscenity.
