The incident took place last Saturday following a dispute over the treatment of an injured man, Govinda, at the hospital. Shiv Sena functionaries and workers allegedly entered the hospital, created a ruckus and assaulted a hospital employee, triggering strong reactions.

After Gharat was arrested on Monday, the party suspended him. On Tuesday, six more functionaries were suspended. They include district chief Kundan Sankhe, deputy taluka chief Manish Sankhe, district Yuva Sena chief Sairaj Patil, MLA Rajendra Gavit's son and deputy taluka chief Rohit Gavit, deputy taluka chief Rahul Sankhe, and Yuva Sena assembly constituency chief Hrishikesh Ware.

In a letter issued on Tuesday, Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More said the seven functionaries had been suspended on the orders of party leader Eknath Shinde for irresponsible conduct and violating party discipline.
