Shower head limescale dissolves in 1 hour with 35p natural cleaning product

Shower heads are one area of the bathroom where limescale builds up fast. The chalky substance can cause blockages and affect water flow. When water is heated or evaporated, it leaves behind a chalky residue, known as limescale. It often appears on surfaces such as taps, pipes and kettles.

Limescale is caused by hard water containing dissolved calcium and magnesium minerals. Descaling a shower head can help it to work efficiently and increase its lifespan. While there are many methods and products to try, a bathroom expert has suggested a natural approach to cleaning.

Brian Toward, CEO of bathroom retailer Wholesale Domestic, said: "The shower head is often forgotten about and it's not until you're standing underneath it mid-shower that you notice all the grime that's built up."

If you live in a hard water area, limescale can build up quite fast, not just on the shower head but also around taps and in kettles.

According to the expert, around 60% of people in the UK live in hard-water areas, which exposes them to high levels of dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium.

Luckily, according to the bathroom expert, there is an easy way to clean shower heads for just 35p.

Brian said: "Distilled white vinegar is the answer to cleaning your shower head and addressing your limescale problems.

"Pour the white vinegar into a zip-lock sandwich bag with your unscrewed shower head until the head is fully submerged."

It's recommended to let it soak for at least one hour to work its "magic", but not too long, as the white vinegar could be harmful to the shower head.

The expert added: "After an hour, remove it from the bag and spray it with your favourite disinfectant before blasting the shower at a hot temperature to get rid of any excess residue."

Distilled white vinegar can be purchased from a variety of retailers, including Tesco and Aldi, for just 35p.

It can be used to clean more than shower heads, too, with cleaning fans favouring it for washing towels as well.
