UTTARKASHI: Following an avalanche at Kedartal on October 29, four porters spent two nights stranded at Bhojkhadak . With avalanches occurring continuously both ahead of and behind them, descending became impossible.

They had only a single packet of porridge (daliya) to eat, which sustained them through the two nights.

Rescue operations continue for sixth day as seven trekkers remain missing at Kedartal

Rohan Rana, a porter and cook from Nald in Uttarkashi who survived the incident, told TOI that on October 29, while returning, he and the others became separated from the rest of the team between Kedarkhadak and Bhojkhadak. Due to persistent avalanches along the route, they were forced to spend the nights of October 29 and 30 at Bhojkhadak. They managed to survive by consuming the single packet of porridge they had. On the morning of October 31, as the weather cleared, they spotted bear tracks leading downhill. Following these tracks, they were able to descend and reach safety.

Meanwhile, the families of the trekkers missing in the Kedartal incident remain hopeful about their discovery and safe return.

Subrato Mondal, from West Bengal, said his uncle, Rintu Mondal, was part of the trekking group along with five friends. Rintu Mondal works as a supervisor for a private company.

Atul Verma from Uttar Pradesh said his two sisters, Vartika Verma and Deepika Verma, were also part of the group. Vartika Verma is a freelance influencer, while Deepika Verma works as a graphic designer for a multinational corporation.
