Tesco makes major change for shoppers over 45 in 28 UK stores - full list
Tesco is making a major change for shoppers aged 45 and over in 28 of its UK stores following "strong customer demand".
The supermarket chain and GenM, the menopause partner for brands and home of the MTick, have confirmed the expansion of its permanent menopause-friendly MTick bays in 28 additional stores nationwide after seeing high demand for menopausal items. Tesco said its MTick-certified menopause bays, which are located within the store's health, beauty and wellness category, have driven the largest percentage increase in space of any category, growing 27% year-on-year. According to the retailer, stores displaying an MTick bay have seen 16% faster like-for-like growth compared to stores with non-designated bays, highlighting the customer need for menopause-friendly solutions.
The MTick symbol and certification was launched to improve accessibility, choice, education and visibility of menopause-friendly products in retail, and is designed to give women the confidence to source, search and shop for solutions that meet their needs.
Tesco said the expanded menopause bays bring together products supporting 36 of the 48 recognised signs of menopause (75%) in one clearly signposted destination, reflecting the complexity and individuality of the menopause experience, which affects all women differently.
By addressing the breadth of menopause signs, the bays are designed to increase access and transform the lived experience of menopause, which usually affects women between the ages of 45 and 55, although it can happen earlier.
As part of the expansion, the bays will include a wider range of menopause-friendly products from trusted household names such as Colgate, E45 and Lil-Lets.
The increased store presence comes just one year after permanent bays originally launched in Tesco, supporting the partnership to scale and reinforcing a shared commitment to improving the menopause shopping experience.
Tom Lye, Health and Wellness Category Director at Tesco, said: "Our partnership with GenM is helping Tesco create a more Menopause friendly shopping experience.
"The MTick gives the category structure and credibility, helping customers quickly find trusted solutions. Expanding these bays to more stores reflects rising customer demand and Tesco's focus on championing women's health."
The MTick is the universal shopping symbol and certification for menopause-friendly products, created in partnership with Boots, indicating products that can support one or more of the 48 signs of menopause.
