22-Year-Old Videographer Fatally Shot As His Camera Battery Dies At Birthday Party
A heartbreaking incident occurred in Makhnaha village under Baheri police station in Darbhanga district late Wednesday night, as a 22-year-old videographer lost his life after being shot in the mouth. The victim, identified as Sushil Kumar Sahni, a resident of the same village, faced this unfortunate fate during a birthday party shoot, where his camera's battery unexpectedly died in the middle of the celebration. Sushil succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
According to police reports, Sushil had been hired by Rakesh Sahni, a fellow villager, for videography services during his daughter's birthday celebration. The tragic turn of events unfolded when Sushil's camera abruptly ran out of battery, disrupting the recording. Enraged by this interruption, Rakesh, the alleged perpetrator, verbally abused Sushil and, in a fit of anger, shot him in the mouth. Following the incident, Rakesh and his accomplices rushed the injured videographer to DMCH but left him at the hospital gate before fleeing the scene. Despite immediate attention from hospital staff, Sushil could not be saved and passed away during treatment.
Outraged by the incident, villagers took to the streets on Laheriasarai main road the next morning, blocking traffic to demand the swift arrest of the accused. The protest caused a traffic jam spanning approximately one kilometer on both sides of the road. The situation was eventually diffused when Benipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sumit Kumar arrived at the scene and calmed the agitated villagers.
"Father of the deceased has lodged an FIR against Rakesh, who is absconding after the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh is also involved in illegal liquor trade. We have detained three persons for interrogation in this connection, and raids are being conducted to nab the accused," the SDPO said.
