Two killed as pick up vehicle crashes into stationary lorry in Karnataka

Dharwad : Two persons were killed and another was seriously injured after a pickup vehicle allegedly crashed into a parked lorry, police said on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on late Monday night, they said.

The lorry was transporting molasses from a sugar factory in Saundatti when one of its tyres got punctured near Amminabhavi, police said.

The driver and two others accompanying him had reportedly stopped the lorry on the roadside and were engaged in repairing the punctured tyre, they added.

According to police, preliminary investigation has revealed that a pickup vehicle carrying onions, which was travelling from the Saundatti side, allegedly lost control and collided with the parked lorry. The impact seriously injured all three persons who were working on the tyre.

One of them died on the spot, while the other two injured persons were immediately shifted to the hospital by local residents.

The injured were initially admitted to Dharwad District Hospital. However, one of them succumbed to his injuries despite treatment, taking the death toll to two. The condition of the third injured person was reported to be serious, and he was shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Dharwad Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
