Viral Video Shows Cop Stripping Uniform After Tussle With BJP Leader, MP Police Call It ‘Old Clip’
A video showing a police officer disrobing in a heated argument has set off a storm in Madhya Pradesh, prompting strong reactions from the Congress. The clip, which went viral recently, shows assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Vinod Mishra in an agitated state at the Waidhan police station in Singrauli. The incident reportedly occurred in February, yet resurfaced now, drawing political attention.
The Congress swiftly criticized the state government, claiming it reflected the dismal state of law enforcement. "The level of policing in the state has become zero. Crimes are uncontrolled, criminals are fearless and the police are helpless at some places and under pressure at other places," the party declared, pointing to this incident as an example of the pressures officers face. The viral video was said to show Mishra stripping off his uniform after an altercation with Arjun Gupta, the husband of BJP corporator Gauri Gupta. The Congress accused the ruling party of putting undue pressure on the police.
However, police officials were quick to clarify that the issue had already been addressed. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Kumar Verma stated that an investigation had been conducted, and Mishra’s annual increment was halted as a result of the findings. Mishra himself admitted to his actions, explaining that he had felt insulted after Gupta allegedly threatened him.
Gupta, on the other hand, denied the accusations, claiming he had only warned Mishra in the midst of a disagreement over a drain construction. He asserted that the allegation of physically tearing Mishra’s uniform was untrue.
