A scenic drive through the spellbinding Spiti Valley recently turned into a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter for a group of lucky tourists. Somewhere between Tabo and Nako, about 8–10 km past Tabo, at dusk on May 5, 2025, the travelers came across a surreal sight — a wild snow leopard walking nonchalantly down the road!
Rather than darting off into the rocky terrain, the elusive big cat calmly strolled ahead of the vehicle, almost like it was leading the way. Respectfully keeping their distance, the stunned group followed behind — cameras rolling, hearts racing.
“On 5th May 2025, between 6 to 7 PM, while travelling from Kaza to Nako, around 8–10 km after crossing Tabo, we witnessed something unforgettable — a snow leopard on the road! These rare creatures are hardly ever seen, especially in May. It stood there calmly, blending into the rocky Spiti landscape. Truly a magical moment of our journey,” shared the traveler.
The mesmerizing moment was captured and shared on Instagram by traveler Jatin Gupta (@JATIN GUPTA | EXPLORER), and within 48 hours, the video went viral, racking up over 226,000 likes. Netizens were in awe of the rare sighting, praising the tourists for staying composed and not disturbing the majestic animal.
