Viral Video Shows Ward Boy Stealing Earrings from Dead Body in Uttar Pradesh Hospital
A ward boy employed at the district government hospital in Shamli was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stealing gold earrings from the body of a deceased woman, authorities confirmed.
According to Shamli Circle Officer Amardeep Morye, the victim, identified as 26-year-old Shweta, had been brought to the hospital on Saturday after succumbing to injuries in a road accident.
Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the district hospital, Dr. Kishor Ahuja, told PTI that the police had brought Shweta’s body to the emergency ward following the accident. However, during the body sealing process, officials noticed her gold earrings were missing.
“Her family filed a complaint after realizing the jewelry was gone. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, we found that the ward boy, Vijay, was responsible for the theft,” said Dr. Ahuja.
A video of the theft, allegedly showing Vijay committing the act, has also surfaced on social media and sparked widespread condemnation.
The deceased's family, including her husband Sachin Kumar, held a protest at the hospital premises, demanding strict punishment for the culprit.
In response to the protest and growing public outrage, the CMS forwarded the matter to the police for legal proceedings.
Police stated that the accused ward boy initially fled the emergency ward but was apprehended later on Sunday. The stolen gold earrings were also recovered from his possession.
An FIR has been lodged against Vijay, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
