Wanted accused killed in exchange of fire with Tarn Taran police
Tarn Taran : A wanted criminal was killed while another person was injured in exchange of fire with Tarn Taran police near Bath village on Monday. SSP Surendra Lamba said the deceased was identified as Kashmir Singh alias Pungi , a resident of Muradpur , while the injured accused was Gursewak Singh , a resident of Narungabad . Police said both were wanted in several criminal cases.
According to the SSP, police launched an operation near Bath village to apprehend Kashmir Singh, during which he allegedly opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliatory fire. Both Kashmir Singh and Gursewak Singh suffered bullet injuries and were rushed to hospital. Kashmir Singh died during treatment, while Gursewak Singh remains admitted, Lamba said, adding that police recovered two pistols from the spot, including a .30-calibre pistol and a Zigana.
According to preliminary investigation, Kashmir Singh was wanted in four to five criminal cases and had earlier allegedly opened fire at a police party. Police are now investigating the circumstances leading to the exchange of fire and examining the involvement of the two accused in other criminal cases.
Further investigation is underway. Police are also examining the source of the recovered weapons and the possible involvement of the accused in other incidents of violent crime, he added.
