Woman RTO inspector found murdered with hammer, acquaintance hangs himself in Khajuri
BHOPAL: A 36-year-old woman RTO inspector posted in Datia was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a hammer at a house in Lake Pearl Colony, Khajuri, in the wee hours of Monday morning. Her acquaintance, who lived at the house, was later found hanging from a tree about 20-50 metres away. Police suspect he killed the woman following a dispute and later died by suicide, though the exact circumstances are yet to be established.
Khajuri police identified the woman as Meenakshi Gokhale , a resident of Indore, and the man as Pawan Kumar Dwivedi , originally from Sidhi district. Police said Meenakshi had reached Pawan's house on Sunday evening with her three-year-old daughter and a female friend.
After dinner, the friend and the child went to sleep in an inner room. On Monday morning, when the friend stepped out, she found Meenakshi lying dead and raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed to the house and alerted police.
Police found serious injuries on Meenakshi's head and a bloodstained hammer lying nearby. Preliminary investigation suggested she was attacked in the porch during the night and her body was subsequently dragged into a room.
Meanwhile, Pawan was missing from the house. Neighbours searched the area and found him hanging from a tree around 20-50 metres from the house. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. No suicide note was found; a bank passbook was reportedly found in his pocket.
Police suspect a dispute may have preceded the killing. Investigators are also examining whether Pawan killed Meenakshi and subsequently hanged himself. The exact motive will be established after investigation.
Police said Meenakshi and Pawan had known each other since her days in Indore when she was preparing for competitive examinations and Pawan ran coaching classes. Meenakshi later joined the RTO department. She had divorced her husband around two years ago and was raising their three-year-old daughter.
Police officials said that the initial investigation revealed that Pawan wanted to marry Meenakshi but her family was opposed to the relationship. According to police, Meenakshi had gone to his house on Sunday to collect her belongings when the incident occurred.
An FSL team inspected the crime scene and senior police officers also reached the spot after being alerted about the murder and suspected suicide. Police have registered a case and begun investigating the sequence of event
