Zepto User's Order Costs Double Due To Unexpected Fees, Twitter Reacts

In recent times, many consumers have turned to quick commerce platforms for their convenience and rapid delivery of groceries and essential items. However, one Zepto customer received a surprising shock when her final bill came with extra charges that amounted to more than double the cost of her order. The customer took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice her frustration over the excessive fees. In response, several users criticized the company's billing system, with some calling it a “scam” and humorously suggesting that Zepto might soon introduce a “rain fee.”

Medhavi Singh, the customer in question, shared her astonishment with the simple yet telling comment, “Bro, what?” as she posted a screenshot of her bill summary. The image revealed that her item total was a modest Rs 60, but the final amount she had to pay jumped to Rs 171.99. Singh was charged an additional Rs 112 on top of her Rs 60 order. The breakdown of the fees included Rs 35 for a small cart fee, Rs 40 as a surge fee, Rs 27 for delivery, and approximately Rs 10 in handling charges. To add to the confusion, the app suggested that Singh purchase Rs 39 worth of additional items for free delivery, leaving many questioning the rationale behind these charges.

The post, uploaded on September 9, quickly went viral on X, sparking a flood of reactions. One person humorously suggested, “All these fees could be combined into one called ‘aalsi fee [laziness fee]’.”


Another user chimed in with a more practical solution, “Remember there’s always water to drink and sleep just like I did.”

A third user joked about the situation, writing, “I will go get it myself.”

One individual commented, “I think you are scammed,” while another added, “Wait till you see the rain fee.”

To add to the irony, one user noted, “And then it says saving Rs 42,” referencing the app's claim of savings despite the inflated charges.

Another frustrated user pointed out, “Even after applying all the fees, it has the courage to show the savings section.”
