GATE 2027 registration underway; IIT Madras allows candidates with unverified DigiLocker accounts to apply
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration is underway. Candidates can apply for the examination until September 27 without a late fee. The extended registration window with a late fee will remain open until October 5.
In the latest update, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras ( IIT Madras ), which is organising GATE 2027, said candidates with an unverified DigiLocker account can also register for the examination.

Candidates with an unverified DigiLocker account can select the default ID proof while filling out the GATE 2027 application form.

The GATE 2027 authorities have clarified that applications submitted through unverified DigiLocker accounts will be scrutinised after the registration deadline.
The scrutiny will be carried out to check the necessary documents submitted by candidates. IIT Madras has advised candidates to read the registration instructions carefully before starting the application process.
How to create a DigiLocker account
Candidates who need to create a DigiLocker account can follow these steps:
Visit the DigiLocker website. Click on ‘Sign Up’ or ‘Create Account’. Enter your mobile number and verify it using the one-time password (OTP) sent to your phone. Enter the required details, including your full name, date of birth, gender, mobile number and email ID. Set a 6-digit security PIN. Submit the registration form. The DigiLocker account will be created.

GATE 2027 is being organised by IIT Madras. The examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Candidates who qualify for GATE can use their scores for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Several public sector undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE scores for recruitment.
