Government Jobs with Zero Transfers: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "government job"? A good salary, respect, job security—and the hassle of packing up and moving to a new city every five years. Yes, transfers are an unpleasant reality of many government jobs, often causing significant distress. But did you know there is a government role where you never have to worry about being transferred for your entire career? You get to spend your entire working life in the heart of the nation—New Delhi. Let’s take a look at this position...

The ASO Role in the Central Secretariat Service (CSS)

Hero Image

Within the Government of India, there is a position with minimal—or effectively zero—transfers: the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Central Secretariat Service (CSS).

Recruitment for this post is conducted through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC CGL) examination. The primary USP of this job is that selected candidates are granted a lifetime posting in Delhi.

Why are ASOs not transferred out?

Essentially, the headquarters of all major Government of India ministries—such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Defence, and their various departments—are located in the national capital, New Delhi. Officers of the CSS cadre work within the headquarters of these very ministries.

Rotational Transfers
While the government’s Rotational Transfer Policy (RTP) does involve moving ASOs from one ministry to another (for instance, from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Ministry of Railways), all these offices are situated within Delhi—in locations like the Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, or Shastri Bhawan. Consequently, there is never a need to relocate or move to a different city.

The Only Way to Move Out

An employee is only sent outside of Delhi if they voluntarily choose to go on deputation; otherwise, their entire career is spent in Delhi.
