Himachal Pradesh teacher recruitment 2026: Sukhu announces 4,000 appointments in six months
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the state government will appoint 4,000 more teachers over the next six months as part of its efforts to strengthen the public education system . The announcement comes after the recruitment of more than 10,000 teachers in the state over the past three years, according to the Chief Minister.

Sukhu made the announcement while addressing a public gathering at Nogli in the Rampur Assembly constituency of Shimla district. He said strengthening education, healthcare, and the rural economy remains among the government's priorities, with a focus on improving public services, and expanding opportunities across the state.
4,000 teachers to be appointed in six monthsThe proposed recruitment is expected to add to the teaching workforce in government schools across Himachal Pradesh. Sukhu said the government would appoint 4,000 teachers within the next six months, signalling continued recruitment in the education sector.
The Chief Minister said more than 10,000 teachers had already been recruited during the past three years. The latest announcement is aimed at further strengthening the education system and improving the delivery of schooling services across the state.
For students in rural and remote parts of Himachal Pradesh, teacher availability remains particularly important because schools often serve communities spread across difficult terrain. Strengthening the teaching workforce is therefore closely linked to ensuring that students have access to regular classroom instruction closer to their homes.
Over 150 CBSE schools opened
Sukhu also highlighted the expansion of CBSE-affiliated schooling in the state. According to him, more than 150 CBSE schools have been opened in Himachal Pradesh, with around 2,000 teachers appointed in these institutions.
The expansion is part of the government's broader focus on improving the quality and reach of school education. The move also gives students access to institutions following the CBSE curriculum within the state, while adding teaching capacity to the growing network of schools.
300 schools being developed as Schools of Excellence
The state government is also working on developing 300 Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education-affiliated schools as Schools of Excellence.
The initiative is intended to strengthen school infrastructure and provide students with better educational facilities. The government has particularly emphasised improving access for students in rural areas so that they can receive quality education without having to travel long distances.
The development of these schools, coupled with the proposed recruitment of teachers, is expected to form part of the state's wider effort to improve government schooling.
Sukhu claims Himachal's education ranking has improved
Sukhu also cited an improvement in Himachal Pradesh's education ranking. He said the state was ranked 21st in quality education in 2021, during the previous BJP government, and claimed that it has now moved to fifth position following reforms introduced by the current government.
The Chief Minister said education and healthcare would continue to receive priority despite the state's financial constraints. He maintained that fiscal challenges would not be allowed to come in the way of development in these sectors.
Healthcare recruitment also expanded
The Chief Minister also outlined steps being taken to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state. He said government medical colleges and the Atal Medical Super Specialty Institute at Chamiyana are being equipped with modern technology and machinery.
According to Sukhu, the government has appointed 500 doctors to address shortages in the healthcare system. He added that outdated medical equipment is being replaced in phases to improve healthcare facilities.
The government's latest teacher recruitment announcement therefore comes as part of a broader push to expand manpower and infrastructure in essential public services. With 4,000 additional teachers planned over the next six months, the focus now shifts to the recruitment process and the government's ability to fill vacancies across schools in the state's urban, rural and remote areas.
