Major initiative by IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics: B.Tech and diploma courses in semiconductor technology to be launched..
IIT Guwahati-Tata Electronics Partnership: IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics—a company belonging to one of the nation’s leading industrial conglomerates—have entered into a major partnership in the field of education. Under this collaboration, specialized courses and practical training programs focused on semiconductor technology are being introduced on the IIT Guwahati campus. The primary objective of this initiative is to fully prepare the nation’s youth for the millions of job opportunities expected to emerge in the semiconductor industry in the near future. Let’s explore what this partnership offers to students aspiring to study at IIT Guwahati.
Introduction of B.Tech and Diploma Courses
Through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), IIT Guwahati will introduce diploma and B.Tech-level programs, with a specific focus on semiconductor ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging). It is worth noting that ATMP technology is considered a critical component of the chip-manufacturing process.
Both institutions will collaborate to develop study materials, resources, and practical modules for these courses. Furthermore, undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students will have the opportunity to work on live research projects related to semiconductor packaging, assembly, and testing.
Practical Training at Tata Electronics
Often, students possess theoretical knowledge but lack practical experience. Addressing this, students enrolled in these programs will have the opportunity to undergo on-site practical training at Tata Electronics’ manufacturing plants, allowing them to learn the intricacies of chip manufacturing firsthand.
Opportunities for Students from the North-East and Other Colleges
It should be noted that this partnership will not be limited solely to students at IIT Guwahati. Together, IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics will identify other engineering colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutions to extend these opportunities. Students from these institutes will also be able to receive semiconductor training through this Centre of Excellence. Furthermore, faculty members from these colleges will be provided with specialized training, enabling them to teach students at their respective colleges more effectively.
