Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Advocates for Five-Day School Week in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Senior religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his support for a five-day school week for students in Jammu and Kashmir during a recent religious event. Speaking to the media, he welcomed the government's proposal to reduce school hours, stating that the well-being of children should be at the forefront of the education system.Farooq highlighted the importance of allowing children time not only for studies but also for relaxation, family time, play, and healthy development. He emphasized that mental health and overall well-being should be central to education. Jammu and Kashmir's Education Minister, Sakina Ittoo, confirmed that the proposal for a five-day school week has been forwarded to the School Education Directorate and that the government is seriously considering it. During the event held at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz expressed delight over the significant participation of children in a grand 'Seerat' competition, which focused on the life and teachings of the Prophet.Approximately 2,800 boys and girls from various districts participated, representing different religious schools, or 'Maktabs.' He praised the efforts of the Mirwaiz Foundation in organizing the event and highlighted the necessity of connecting the youth with the Prophet's messages of faith, compassion, good character, and service to humanity. In conclusion, Mirwaiz congratulated the participating children, their teachers, parents, and organizers, wishing that such initiatives continue to promote knowledge, good character, and a deep understanding of Islamic teachings among the younger generation.
