In a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The expansive religious edifice was constructed by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha ( BAPS ). Notable figures from Bollywood, including Akshay Kumar , Vivek Oberoi, and Shankar Mahadevan , graced the auspicious event. Post-consecration, Akshay Kumar took to his social media platforms, sharing a stunning image of the temple and expressing profound gratitude for being part of this remarkable milestone. His caption underscored the significance, stating, “Blessed to be a part of the inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan temple at Abu Dhabi. What a historic moment!!”
For the grand occasion, Akshay Kumar donned an elegant white and golden kurta. Accompanied by his security detail, the 56-year-old star made his way towards the inauguration spot, exuding an aura of regal charm and poise.

Grammy-winning artist Shankar Mahadevan, who graced the event with his presence, expressed his joy regarding the 'historic moment' in an interview with ANI. He remarked, “This is an extremely happy moment for India and all Indians all over the world. This is a historic moment in our lives where we are going to witness a Mandir which is so magnificent and spiritual coming on a land like Abu Dhabi. Only our PM Narendra Modi can execute this. I want to thank the entire Swaminarayan family for including me.”
Inaugurating Abu Dhabi’s inaugural Hindu stone temple, PM Modi described it as a symbol of the shared heritage of humanity. The global leader also expressed gratitude to the UAE for scripting a new golden chapter of human history.
According to PTI, the BAPS temple is constructed on a 27-acre land in Abu Mreikhah, near Al Rahba off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway. The temple has been built at a cost of around Rs 700 crore. The Prime Minister noted that this is not only India’s ‘Amrit Kaal’, but also a period of 'Amrit Kaal' for our faith and culture.
